How to shop in Sydney winter
Choose weather appropriate clothing for the outside, while also being mindful of how annoying all layers are to take off for trying on clothes in shops. Deliberate over whether or not that includes a scarf. Think about hideousness of having cold neck. Take scarf.
Enter shopping centre. Be smug that it is not ridiculously hot - you have succeeded in the balance of outerwear!
Wander around in sales, enjoying excitement of potential bargain. Find an item of clothing, try on, dislike. Realise too hot for jacket.
Next floor. More bargains. Time to try on new jeans. Three pairs. New changeroom is boiling. You are now boiling. After wrestling with jeans, are now too hot for jacket, scarf, AND jumper.
Bargain with self about how many layers it is better to carry on person and be boiling, vs. carry in arms and be annoyed. Decide on an unhappy medium of being too hot and too burdened by sartorial smothering.
Seek refuge in better air-conditioned cafe. Buy cold drink. Allow core body temperature to normalise. Still too warm for scarf and jacket, but now you have a bag to carry them in. Relax a little.
Step outside. Feels 10x colder than when you went in and all seven previous days combined. Need jacket. Need scarf. Should have bought extra jumper! Curse winter.
